New years resolutions or goals for 2021

Lose weight ( as always) I'm not planning ahead at all really. Still too much uncertainty about tiers and lockdowns so living in the moment. In an ideal world, visit my Dad in Liverpool (I've only seen him twice since March) Give him a proper hug, have a week in Scotland, go to Goodison, and go on a massive monumental pub crawl - without booking anything, without substantial meals, just drinking beer and talking b*ll*cks.
@anjelikaferrett thanks for sharing. Good luck getting your goals accomplished in the current imperfect world. Hopefully as people began getting vaccinated we can come back to some sort of normalcy in 2021.

This year given all the restrictions I ended up having to come up with an exercise routine at home to make sure that I managed my weight, so I invested in getting a workout app and it has made a great difference helping me with motivation and getting into a routine.

I'm totally with you about your desire to see your dad and give him a proper hug. Same here, I last saw my dad in January. He has been stuck in his apartment in Colombia since March and it has been a very lonely time for him. Covid has been the hardest to the eldest as they have been isolated from their families for way too long. May this wish come true for you and all the families cherishing time with their love ones in 2021.

A pub crawl sounds so fun, I am yearning for one of those too. Cheers to all your goals coming true.

Thank you. I have managed to go to the gym during the times it has been allowed to open. I go with my daughter and we have a very lovely PT who deals with all my insecurities about being in a gym and being rubbish at all the things he makes me do! He pushes me to try stuff I would never dream of and would give up on if I was on my own. I am definitely fitter than I was this time last year and I have discovered that although my default position is that I hate going I actually missed it very much when we could not go because of lockdown. Exercise does indeed improve your mental well being as well as physical.

Currently a Purple Belt in BJJ and would love to eventually make it to Black Belt as should be there already had I not taken so much time out of training over the years so thats the aim in these next 2-3 years.

Not much chance of recommencing training anytime soon though until we get the vaccines rolled out.

Would be interested in taking up kick boxing as could give me whats needed to go into MMA but realistically wont have the time alongside work/family - its definitely a single mans game the amount of hours you need to dedicate.
Wow @ForeverBlue92 you achieving Black Belt seems like a thrilling goal and once you do then nobody should mess around with unless one want to get their ass kick lol How long have you been practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu?

I myself don't feel comfortable training at the gym until we have this virus under control, it is just too risky given the amount of strong breathing we do when performing such activities.

I have been doing very simple kickboxing at home when exercising and I really enjoy it. I always envision Trump as my target for motivation. Maybe you should threatened the missus that if she doesn't give up her Netflix addiction that you are going to take up kickboxing ;)

About 10 years on and off - took a long time out when my lad was born as was too knackered/busy so realistically I would have achieved a lot more had I just stuck at it.

Realistically It'll only ever be a hobby as have left it too late to be serious about going competitive - there is no money in BJJ only really MMA but the gym I train at there are local lads younger than me who are much more rounded in terms of training who actually compete so little point aiming at making money out of it!

Working out with my mom is an activity that I miss as well. It makes such a difference having a partner to encourage and push you all at the same time in addition to a good PT. Exercise has definitely been a savior for my mental health this year that's why I have been trying to push myself to continue having some sort of routine at home. But I have to be honest and admit that it hasn't always been easy to find the motivation. I really miss going to the gym too thus another wish for the next year is going to be that you and I can get back to such a routine with our workout partners :)

That's a good bit of time dedicated to a hobby. While making money out of an activity that you are good at would be nice, no all our pastimes are meant to generate income, sometimes there are other non monetary value to such activities. Such a nobody messing with you at the pub unless they want to loose a fight lol

Mate you should stick with the BJJ, i know it's a bit slow working through the belts, i only got to a 3rd stripe on my blue belt before i stopped with it but i already had a 2nd Dan Black Belt in Kyu-shin-do Judo and had done a fair bit of Catch wrestling so had done a fair bit of grappling previously. Unless you want to go in for stuff like Polaris then i agree it's hard to make money as a Juijiteiro, the guy who i learn't from has done Polaris and the Euro circuit and the travel costs alone were huge. Also you should do Muay Thai over Kick Boxing, the benefits in terms of fitness and conditioning are much better and in terms of MMA the blows are just designed to hit harder. Next time i come up north i will bring my Gi and my spats and we should have a roll on the mats mate.
