They both seem really expensive ? I guess that's the 3D jarg pushing the price up.

I agree with you Brennan,,,, very expensive. I'm from the school of thought that I can get a 50 inch TV from Tesco for a third of the price and still watch the same programmes as somebody who pays a grand for theirs.....nothing wrong with spending that by the way, it's your money and your choice......

Not arsed about 3d at all, complained to SKY yesterday and they offered me free multiroom for a year so instead of spending 200 on a tv for the bedroom thought i'd jib the living room one in and get a new one for the Living room.

Thats a middle of the rood Samsung some are twice the price for a similar size.

I think out of them two i'd go for the samsung one. but every body i know who has had a Samsung one has had problems with them. but if your getting it from John Lewis then they have a 5 year guarentee so you'd be fine. Not really into 3d stuff then you might find one cheaper than that. I usually buy Sony stuff as i 've always found it very reliable.

Plasma eats electricity - more as the screen size increases.

I got a cheap 3D TV from Tesco with a cheap 3D Philips player for £400. Since bought a much better BD player, but does OK for me for now.

For picture quality Plasma, for Electricity bills LED

And shop around, the price will vary greatly and a quick google will save you a shed load. John Lewis do offer longer Warranties as standard though, so that might factor into your decision making.

I personally wouldn't go for 3D, I watch it enough in the cinema to know it's a gimmick for now. And you'd have to sit there with those glasses on digging into your ears and nose, just not practical for the moment IMO

This is what I tend to do when purchasing a TV. Scan the usual suspects websites:

Samsung
Panasonic
Sony
LG
Sharp - If you have the cash and you want that extra Pixel colour

I don't bother with the rest.

I then check out the panels and start narrowing things down. I ended up getting Panasonics top end LED last year for £550, it was £650 to £800 on most sites. Costs £14 a year to run

This website is very good for helping to work out what things will cost to run:
