Throw shaka, not shade.
League & FA are looking to crack down on abusive behaviour :

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36844570

Offences which could earn players a yellow card
  • Visibly disrespectful behaviour to any match official;
  • An aggressive response to decisions;
  • Confronting an official face to face;
  • Running towards an official to contest a decision;
  • Offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures towards match officials;
  • Physical contact with any match official in a non-aggressive manner;
  • A yellow card for at least one player when two or more from a team surround a match official.
New red card offences
  • If a player confronts match officials and uses offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures towards them;
  • Physical contact with match officials in an aggressive or confrontational manner

Liverpool get lucky again, if this had been brought in a few years ago they'd be non league by now.

Thoughts?

Yes slippy Steve would be goosed

Hendo has lost the only thing he brings to the game then, I'll wait and see which teams suffer from this before calling it a step in the right direction

Hopefully the new rules will take some pressure of the referees. Officials are sometimes bullied by players screaming down their ears.

Things like screaming at the officials for throw ins and such, even though they know it isn't their ball. Just as bad as cheating IMO.

won't make a difference. It didn't have to be a rule, if the refs had some balls they would have been sending players off previously for foul and abusive language. They've always been the one with the power, just never used it. Happy to be taken for a mug.

Why not actually make some decisions for the good of the game for once. it should only be captains allowed to speak, these days, the role of captain is only to toss the coin. You see players fighting over who takes a pen, whole teams running and cursing the ref and the manager does the half time team talk. There's no captain about them.

Yes. About floomin time.

Once we eradicate this churlish behaviour from the spoiled brats, it opens the door to the entertainment miked refs talking through their decisions, like in rugby. This will:
1. Reduce the need for brainless football punditry at half time and
2. Totally remove the possibility of secret unbroadcasted communications such as: "hey ref, lino here, Roman says if you give Chelsea an offside goal in the 6th minute of 4 minutes extra time you have 500k waiting for you"

So this might just get a yellow card then ?

It has always been a rule, the referee have always been able to book players for foul and abusive language they just haven't got the balls to do it.

Seen it happen at lower levels a few times, not recently though.

Hopefully, now that it is 'official' the refs will grow a pair but not counting on it.
