kick em all out at Easter I reckon and see how they cope graduating in The University of Lifes' Hard Knocks Faculty.

Incidentally, a few I know that sat no exams whatsoever have been quite successful, I bumped into a lad the other week that went to a 'special' school as they were called back then, possibly done better for himself than a whole host of us that got a clutch of o'levels.

Too much emphasis put on the final exam i.m.o. for our apprenticeships they specified certain subjects at O'Level, yet if you ended up working a machine on the shop floor you didn't necessarily need to be that educated, lad I know got hardly any exams,m got taught by a family friend and again is probably the best out of us in that trade. Yes it shows an ability to retain information, but like I say they were so specific in the subjects you had to get that it meant you could only ever go for jobs in that field, a change of mind was almost impossible from the age of 14 on.
my 13 y.o. hasnt a clue what she wants to do yet.

Just hope the government knows what they are doing as this will affect my daughter. I'm more in the coursework with exams. Coursework teaches them time management, English writing and researching skills.

modern day exams = dumbed down to get the stat / pass rate up

Bring back;

the 1944 education act.

the 11 plus

'the times tables '

learning by rote

once it's flogged into you you never forget it

Comprehensive education was the biggest con ever foisted on British kids and their parents

never forget both the cream and sh*te float to the top

make sure the sh*te doesn't smother the cream

Likewise, I think it's pretty obvious that they dont though. Another generation 'lost' due to Tory policies, like I say though it wont affect their types because their kids & future successors will be at schools that will be doing alternative exams.

anybody who can will put their kids or grand kids in a decent school that does a decent Cambridge type curriculum and not the touchie feelie everybody passes the none exam exam

even if you have to pay

Having students write longer essays will surely be beneficial for those students wishing to go to University. These changes seem to benefit naturally bright, hard working students who are genuinely interesting in learning. Which is far from the majority of students.
