New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

I will admit to being a little underwhelmed too at first glance. The kid in me didn't like the word Dick either. Exposure, yeah a world household name would have had more impact for sure.
As for needing cash, we have no idea what was on the table from others. This may have been the best deal. Remember, all sponsorship deals have a top line figure if all targets are met. The reality is somewhat different. Only the absolute elite clubs can get the big big deals as they will always end up going far in the Champions League etc. The rest of us have performance clauses that reflect our current standing.
Would you rather have taken less money (whatever than number actually is) to have a household name for image sake or gone with the best (if it indeed was) on paper financial deal?
That's a tough call to make. Shouldn't come to that choice though if you have savvy negotiators with great contacts in the corporate world. We obviously dont.

On a related matter: I think it's clear now that the sponsor's name/logo is being used WAY too much on the stadium.

It's all over the exterior of the stadium on all sides and the roof.

That's a source of great embarrassment, no matter who the sponsor is.

Less is more should have been the policy. And, apart from the badges, Everton's identity is swamped by some local firm called Hill Dickinson.

Unreal.

I wouldn't say great embarrassment but it's certainly not an easy pill to swallow considering the lack of Everton branding so far. Hopefully this changes for the better.

We needed to get cash + exposure from a sponsorship deal. We got cash...and really the 'details' on that look far fetched.

I think the vast majority of people were disappointed (and remain so) about the deal the club struck.

I am not sure that sponsorship deals are necessarily designed to be mutually beneficial other than one party gets money and the other get exposure. It is basically a form of advertising and we are the billboard.

Dave, I'm not entirely sure what you thought was going to happen here. We wanted the best deal we could get and as a result whoever is paying is going to want the most brand-recognition they can get for their money.

And it's not like this is a new thing

Nah, I think there's more to it than that.

Sponsorship has to be appropriate in terms of the nature of the business your partner is and in terms of brand recognition.

Well, unless those logos are festooned all over the other sides and top of those stadiums that's not a like for like comparison with us.

Makes my blood boil: some no mark local legal outfit having it's name all over a £700M-£800M stadium - the home of Everton Football Club - and we get a few badges in each corner.

The tail's wagging the dog here.

"He who pays the piper calls the tune".

It's a huge deal so they will want as much exposure as they can get.

Personally I would have liked to have seen on the signage The Hill Dickinson Stadium coupled with The Home of Everton FC.
But I'm not the one paying.
