new defensive formation

I was actually thinking of Rodwell when I wrote it. He's someone that could do the job. I'm still not a big fan of the sweeper system, but he at least would be someone that could perform it, one day at least.

I dont believe in "wing backs" or "sweepers", our formation should be
4-4-2 at home and 4-5-1 away.

This is because I think we dont have the players to do the WB style formation, you need players who can defend and get forward, put crosses in and get goals. Not to mention they have to have the pace of Usain Bolt and the stamina of steam engine

We need to play 4-4-2 at home and take the initiative against teams, we are a top 5 team now, we should intimidate teams when they come to goodison not to mention we have 5 strikers

Away we should continue to play 4-5-1 and play fast counter attacking football

4-5-1 for us is great. It can be as attacking as we want it to be, or as defensive. At any one time we can have 7 attacking players. It can be 4-3-3 or uber defensive. It gives us solidarity in midfield which we seem not to have with just 4 there.

So I see anyway. It sometimes means we struggle to put pressure on up-front, but on the whole it works fine

I would rather we played with 2 CentreBacks, 2 Wingbacks, a DefensiveMidfield, 3CentreMidfield, an AttackingMidfield and a Striker, like so.

AM

We clearly dont have the players to play that at the moment. But thats the route I would go down.

I've been thinking we could do this for a while, although with the strikers we now have I think another ST rather than an AM - Yak & Jo, with Saha coming off the bench.

Miguel and Baines would be a brilliant pair of full backs for this formation.

Lescott-----Jagielka
Miguel----------------------Baines

Cahill---Arteta---Pienaar
Yakubu---Jo/Saha
