New Contracts: Barry, Baines and Holgate

I think the contract extension for Barry might be a sweetener, for a coaching job. Who better than Barry to show the youngsters how to conduct themselves, look after themselves to play in the top level as long as he has. Also if we bring in Schneiderlin, Barry will be more effective as we won't be asking him to play every game.

Baines was a no-brainer. Oviedo and Garbutt aren't good enough to lace his boots. Galloway is more of a CB.

Holgate. Future CB.

Happy with those contract extensions.

didnt he have an affair and get one of them super injunction things to stop the british press reporting it allegedly? hardly a great example on how to conduct yourself

Baines should have received 1 year
Holgate 5 years
Barry nothing

Why does koeman persist with a player who doesnt suit his strategy?

If the idea is to keep in Barry's good side with the thought that he will be moving on to management, then this is a great idea.

Bear with me here, it'll probably be a bit stupid sounding to a lot here. In baseball, the players that USUALLY wind up being the best managers are catchers. They call every single pitch, they set up where they want the ball to be placed with thoughts of where that ball will wind up. They are involved in literally every single play. That's kind of where I see Barry. They guy reads the game better than almost literally anyone. His legs(which has NEVER been his strong point) have gone but if he can impart any of his wisdom on to players like Davies than that is priceless.

tl;dr: think Barry is going to be a manager someday and think Moshiri(et al) are hoping it will be with us.

I think Barry has completed his useful time with us. Not only is he increasingly slow, but he usually slows the game down too.

That might be useful when you are in the lead and want to run time down, but it isn't enough to get you into the lead.

He's a very expensive player to hold in reserve. The money could be better spent.
