Paid deposit today on a Megane Diesel Estate, px'ing Jeep against it so a bit of a millstone is removed.

2005, 69k on clock with full service history. £2495

got £600 for jeep, would've had to throw £400 at it to keep it running tbh (shhhh ffs!!). Had to get a £1500 loan like but what I save on Vehicle Excise Duty (tax to everyone but Bruce) & Insurance only falls £8 short of the monthly payment The fact it does 61 mpg (combine) & 70 on a run, in comparison to about 14mpg means I'm a fair bit better off, & its 6 years younger.

These things USUALLY go tits up for me though so we'll have to see.

getting it on Monday cos that the 1st of month.

deal and a half that Reidy.

I'm hoping so mate, more about cost cutting really than anything else, coulda sorted the Jeep but as I say I coulda thrown £400 quid at it straight away and still been in same position with low mpg, and the £400 wouldnt have been the end of it really, Or made it worth any more.
Loved the Jeep with all it's leather and mega stez, had all the extras but at the end of the day its a works van really.

My Everton Badge is coming out of the back though cos it's the Arl one, even cut the 'Everton' off so its just crest and Motto. Everton in side window. A feeling that when I stanleyed it out though I've marked the glass, NEA. It's from near the Reebok so not havin a Bolton tawt rip it out and bin it.

hey Reidy, that sounds like a good deal on the Renault lid, my sis in law is just getting a Toyota Corolla 1.8 T Sport for £2500 and thats a 2003. i'm thinking about a new motor next year but looking at a finance option on a 1 or 2 yr old, prolly hatchback not sure what yet.

Picked the Megane Estate up today, it's Pearlescent Silver so seems to change colour depending on whats reflecting off it, with a clear sky it's light blue...... so that'll be a colour I wont see that often then.

I put the dash computer so it's showing m.p.g. as seeing high 50's and 60's while driving urban mileage makes me smile.

Have to say it's in superb nick so made up with it so far.

The Boot is huge so will easy fit the toolboxes in, and all our gear when going to France in it.

Cars are so expensive in Australia by comparison. a 2005 Megane over here would set you back about 8 or 9 grand (about 6000 pounds)

I was using a Peugot 307 convertible in the UK a few years back, 2 litre sports diesel with all leather etc. Checked the price and it was 17K pounds. Looked for the same car when I got back to Australia - only have the 1.6 litre, no leather and they wanted over 30k pounds.

European cars are expensive in both Australia & New Zealand.

BUT I remember seeing the R34 Skyline come out in NZ and when I got back to the UK it was over double the price, same with Mitsubishi's etc.

One of the biggest cons in NZ was Nissans that were 'NZ Made,' what that actually meant was they were built, dismantled and rebuilt in NZ so that they could carry that tag.

The used car market in the UK has some proper bargains nowadays, due to changes in Car Tax* (yes, ok Bruce but it's what us motorists still call it) and insurance groupings, it will have knocked thousands off cars overnight when it came into effect. I remember it happening when they went from having 10 groups to 20 and 'Hot Hatches' got hammered, I had a 205GTI at the time and it swiped about £1500 off the value whilst I was asleep, over 1/3 of the value at the time.

*The DVLA still refer to it as 'Tax' on the renewal slips & also a 'Tax Disc.'

I'm posted home next month, and have already started looking at used Audi A3s. I'll pay cash and can't be bothered with finance deals as I don't trust any of them as being a "good deal". And I don't see the point in buying a brand spankers new one, so a 3-4 year old A3 will do me fine.

If I'd had £1500 notes to spend I wouldn't have asked the Bank either tbh mate. Only £178 interest over 3 years though so not too bad really, £100 set up fee is the worse of it really.

i really like audi's but the A3 looks a bit 'bland' i'm not sure. the A1 is still a nicer motor

I only like the 3-door versions - I think the 5-door ones look a bit 'stretched', if you get what I mean.

And I'm still toying with getting another TT....I had one a few years back and loved it. I just reckon I've had my mid-life crisis now, but I am tempted with having another one!
