Player Valuation: £35m
New year coming up and I think it’s time for a new car. My current car is years old and will be getting scrapped I think.

Been a while since I bought a car, just wondering what people think is the best way to buy a car these days. PCP, lease or HP.

I’m not one to want to change my car every couple of years so quite happy to keep it a while. However Iv been told nobody buys cars that way anymore and it’s more down the PCP route.

Has anyone bought a car recently and can offer any advice on the best way to go? Looking at around £350-£400 a month.

Also been a while since I was in a dealership. Always find the car sales people are looking to find them best deal for them as opposed the customer. Any tips with this would be most welcome.

Buy a classic. Easy to look after, cheap insurance, zero rated road tax. No reason a well looked after one is unreliable and no depreciation if you look after it.

I do not even begin to understand the differences between buying a car in the UK vs US, but the basics surely remain the same. The best deals are for 3 yo models with moderate mileage (30k-45k mi, whatever that equates to in km). This is especially true for high end cars that take larger depreciation, but always check leased cars very carefully to make sure they've been properly maintained. Outside of that, happy hunting and post pictures here so we can make fun of what you like to drive.

A lot depends on your budget and what car you're looking at.
For £350-£400 a month, you could be riding around in something really nice on a 3-4 year lease.

Don't finance through the dealer, try to go through a bank loan. Also, you can save a lot of trouble by emailing various dealers with exactly what you want and what you are willing to pay, but this only works once you have decided on what brand/model you want. For example, you can then specify that you've found a given model with the given options that you want/don't want, and specify your max price (based on listing different prices that you've found across various dealers), etc. I find buying the extended warranty to be a waste of money (assuming you buy a dependable car to begin with) and would not purchase it.

That depends on the cost and how long the buyer is thinking of keeping the car.
