Neville Southall

There have only ever been four keepers who could come near to him, although Castilies at Real could be the greatest in time, he is still too young.

Pat Jennings, Dino Zoff, Gordon Banks and Lev Yashin, to his enternal credit Nev had a part of each of those keepers best attributes. Zoff could be caught out by long range shots, Tim Howard can, Banks could lose it in lesser games, Yashin although I saw him play had the reputation, pulled off one gob smacking save when I saw him but he was never tested against the best in the world. Jennings was a great keeper who played behind a water tight defence, he was weak to his left but had hands like shovels. If I had to pick a team I'd struggle between Nev and Banksy with Nev just scrapping it, he was that bloody good and was so consistent over his entire career. Incidentally Shilton, Clemence and Stepney were good keepers but will forever remain outside the very best in the world list
