Nerdy Gamer Help Required

I don't have one, but GOT started a thread about a bargain PS3 yesterday. It's either that or a Master System for this years Xmas Number 1
 
It's a straight choice between an XBox360 and a PlayStation3 mate. They both have strengths and weaknesses - however the XBox is slightly cheaper whilst the PS3 has integrated BluRay so is the more complete entertainment station.

In terms of online capabilities, they're pretty much the same. However, I'd ask your son what his mates have, because to play online together they have to be using the same console.

So, in short, whatever his mates have, get that.

Xbox 360 is the best console if your son is of the bloodthirsty variety - like me.

Get him a PS3 if he's bent.

He's only 10 so I don't think this helps.
 
RFUS and Tubey are spot on, check with his mates.

If your buying him a game to go with it, Skyrim will blow his mind..... Jus sayin.
 
Also if you get him Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Please do us all a favour and ensure he does not have access to a microphone!!! For his mental well being otherwise he will be learning alot of new words.

(In COD, young lads get pretty heavily insulted and yelled at, generally because they are under the recommended playing age but also because it's easier to blame a kid. Every single time i've played and a kid with a high pitched voice has come on, the poor thing has been ripped to shreds.)
 

I don't have a console, but my feeling would definitely be to go for the PS3. The hardware definitely has more potential, the exclusives seem to be better than X360, the online is free, Blu-ray, the prices for it have been slashed recently and Microsoft are tits. The one thing I prefer about the X360 is the controller.

I say get him a cheap-range gaming PC :)

It's unbearable sometimes though. I've heard some kids play a song in the background the entire match and sing along to it.
 
I have a xbox 360 and ps3 and for me the 360 wins hands down, however as stated previously this is because all my mates have one and we all play online therefore making the 360 more fun. Also more selection of games on the 360 and seem to be cheaper however can't clarify this as it ages since i looked at games for my ps3. And yeah the controller is better.
