i got a samsung 46" 6700 model, a few years old but its a quality tv. I always believe its worth paying the extra buck for a decent set.

Samsung F7000 smart 3d tv is amazing. Its more what you can't do with it rather than what you can.

the price may be steepish but im guessing outside uk would be a lot cheaper due to VAT and stuff

Depends I guess...I paid a moving firm In singapore to move some paintings to manila and got hit with 50% charges on them...managed to 'work around it' though

I htink it all depends on how much you want to spend. The Tv i mentioned cost me about 1000 (or 30 a month through work) but i would assume it is higher here because of our tax and whatnot. They do non 3d versions which would probably cost a few hundred less and overseas they might well be even cheaper. there is other models of the tv as well that would reduce in price again, like the 6000 series.

I just love my tv! The other one we had was like 4-5 years old and a budget one at that. This one has voice control, motion control, connects up to devices (turns my playstation on and visa versa) and can even download apps like angry birds. If you want an over the top tv then shop around for this one because if you can get it (without 3d) anywhere near £500 then it is a bargain. Plus i have the 46 inch version, they go bigger depending on price, up to 60 inch. That would have cost me like over a hundred a month though .....

Last one I got was a sony on singapore. Went into the store and got a major discount for the last 2 display models....lasted I ust over a year before loads of issues so wouldnt want to get 2nd hand tv....need a long guarantee.

Thanks all for the comments and advice. As pointed out -- how does the quality differ on these projectors compared to a TV?

Blueblud's quite right, it's all about viewing distance mate, iirc, most stuff's engineered for something like 'viewing distance' = 3x 'image height' . One can get poop pj's and poop tv's mate, check out reviews and comments at http://www.avforums.com

Also orchard you mention 2000 hours so I guess its rented or is that the lifespan before you need to buy something?

Bulb lifespan mate, might be different with LED tech.

Even super bright new fancy projectors still need a dark room to work effectively.

You can still see them with the curtains open during the daytime, but it'll still look washed out.
