It sounds to me like a sort of Davis Cup for soccer.
Still, as long as it is being played instead of tedious international friendlies and on the dates reserved for same, it will make no difference to my life.
On the surface it seems a great idea. In years when there is no major tournament to have those big games replacing friendlies would be better for all watching.
It reminds me a little of the FFP though, in that it'll help the bigger nations maximise their profits for their own FAs and the smaller nations will fall by the way without the odd lucrative game.
How will it affect the FIFA rankings? Everyone knows Switzerland used a clever plan to choose their friendlies carefully to ensure they got the highest Fifa Ranking possible for the World Cup. If the top Nations are all playing each other more regularly you'd expect their rankings to suffer under the current system. Would screw the World Cup draw up?
So rather than games where they can change the full 11 and rest the regulars during the Premier League season now the crap games also mean something, that's fantastic.
