National anthems

Nope, happy with God Save the Queen. It’s the England anthem and has been adopted by the UK.
Facht.
It's actually the UK anthem, used by England. For reference, none of the 4 home nations have an official anthem.
England are, as far as I am aware, the only country to use another nations anthem at sporting events.

@Kurt. I remember listening to your boys singing 'Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau' before this match and openly saying, "We've lost this already."

With God Save the Queen for example, I look beyond the actual lyrics and think of it simply as something, at the time, that unifies the crowd or people.

By the way, people who boo national anthems are bellends.

Jerusalem could be challenged as being a religious based song that wouldn’t suit all
As children, we weren't allowed to sing Jerusalem in church because of the perceived satanic links. A good, patriotic song however.

Satanic links? Wow your teachers were dumb.lol
The British-English phrase (dark) satanic mills denotes industrial mills or factories—especially those of Britain in the nineteenth century—associated with harsh working conditions and regarded as representing exploitative and dehumanising industrialisation.

Less teachers, more preachers - e.g. the priest.

His motive was more to do with the chariots of fire, even though this is in 2 Kings, being some form of call to arms. He was wrong of course, but it was what it was.

He much preferred the good old hymns of 'The Day Thou Gavest', which is a great hymn itself.

So, the Archbishop of York has suggested that when wales, scotland, Ireland or England play each other they should all sing god save the Queen rather than their own national anthems….. wouldn’t things just be easier if England had their own anthem ?

Just devolve the Union. Even easier!

Is devolve even the right word?

I was born in the U.K. and lived there for 30 years, now live in Canada. I find the U.K. anthem frankly embarrassing. It's not about the country but paying homage to an unelected, way past it's sell by date monarchy. Please come up with a better one.
