I don't know about other overseas supporters but I can tell you that having connections to Howard & Donovan really focused my attention on Everton when I started looking for a club to support in 2010. Now I can't imagine Everton not being a part of my life. Most Americans only connection to soccer is through the US National Team so it's natural for them to follow those players to their club teams.
