Hello fellow blues. After reading much debate amongst the forumites on here last night and this morning, I thought i'd contribute my obsersations on last nights performance.
1. Osman brings a strange magic that not even Paul Daniels could explain.
2. Felli and Rodwell seem to like each other. I like them.
3. We defended like heroes. Yes it was heart wrenching, worrying, panicky at times, but when we qualified for the Champions league qualifiers a few years back, every game seemed to be like this. We had more luck than I had ever seen Everton have in my entire life. Back then I watched display after display where it was like we had a 12th man on the pitch, throwing ourselves at everything, showing determination to not let that ball rattle OUR net. Two words to explain this. DESIRE & HEART. The Everton fundamentals. Ask any fan.
4. The ease. We opened up city like a bag of crisps, expensive one's at that. Kettle Chips. When Cahill nodded in, he had that look like, "that was easy...". It was easy Tim coz you are a great footballer and Everton legend. 2nd goal Bainesy. What a finish on his weak foot. Thoroughly deserved goal for a model professional. He loves the club, he loved that goal. I love him.
5. Sitting back. Did they do it on purpose?. The blue shirted heroes went at City while they were still asleep and showed them how Everton can and will punish teams when we have the heart and desire. We sat back and defended like heroes effectively parking the bus. We were knackered. Did no-one think of that? Same at the Mersey Derby, we went hard, then sat back, soaked up the pressure and defended like heroes coz trying to play the 90mins the same way will leave you exposed to a pant pulling down moment when we are stretched and especially when we are down to 10 men. Fitness levels vary. Just think of the energy bar on FIFA and stop questioning why you're losing 2-0 to your mate who is an obscure Belgian team and you are Real Madrid. Yes you've been holding down the sprint button ALLLL game. nuff said.
6. Suprised? I wasn't. It's this attitude when our backs are against the wall that springs us into action. Deep down, aside from jokes on here, I had a feeling we would win last night. I wasn't suprised when we went 1-0 up. I wasn't suprised when we went 2-0 up. We are a good side remember. I think we are.
7. Moyes. Moyes threw the kitchen sink at Mancini last night, and boy did I love him for it. Moyes has frustrated me in recent weeks, but one read of LCABs sermon and the acknowledgement that Moyes knows something needs changing, and behold, he changes things, slightly albeit. Last night was Scotland v Italy in chess, and quite frankly Moyes Irn Bru breaks caught Mancini off guard. Bily on, have some Saha for afters. All things that Mancini could not ignore, as, as much as we grill Saha for being a soft lad, if City had given him half a yard, that would of been 3-1. "Tony lad, get in central defence and hold it down." "Sorted boss". There is no questioning Hibbo's heart. It's blue and bleeds blue.
8. Negatives. In my book, negatives are minimal and therefore almost not worth mentioning. Anyone who thinks we can play like Barcelone and win everything all the time playing pretty gay football in pink.....Come back later. Coz football has changed. Its a war out there. A war of tactics, a physical battle, and last night our soldiers did us proud. I was watching the game, watching us being bombarded with shots and with limited possession. But was I annoyed like normal?? No, I wasn't. Not even close. It's like I saw the game thru different eyes. LCAB eyes. The best sort.
9. The fans. I love you blues. The heart and soul. The President in Independence day giving THAT speech. The freezing temperatures in the billionaires arena, and all I could hear was "Evvvvvvvverton.....Evvvvvvvverton..." Brilliant. Thankyou. Those who travel to away games. (There has been seasons where I went to more away games than home) Its the army. The peoples Army fighting for the peoples club. The looking round at being outnumbered but creating a wall of noise that resonates and makes you proud. It makes you sing louder, and you bleedin mean it.
10. Tim Howard. Thats a real man just there. He threw himself at everything last night. I think he'd of used his own nuts to stop a shot if he had to. He's made a few clangers this season but against Wigan with THAT save, and last night was immense. To see all the players jumping on him almost brought a tear to my eye. Wow, i thought, these lids really care, they REALLY care. I was so elated. One word. RESILIENCE.
11. In here. I read all of Tubeys posts. Him being the point of debate and popcorn consumption. He strikes me as a politer version of Ghost. I think he makes some good points and enjoy reading his spin on things. I just worry that he is trying to convince people on here. You don't need to lid. You explain yourself well, let people debate on from that. Some of the grief you got wasn't fair, but thats the price of speaking your mind in a room full of blues. We're all going to have something to say on what should / shouldn't happen. Its the nature of the beautiful game. I just hope that we ALL took at least 5mins to say well done Everton, now let's move on to Birmingham and start winning some more games.
I will be there on Boxing day as will many of you, sitting amongst you, laughing, crying, and cheering with you. As one.
Peace.
Muggins.
