A bizarre team selection from David Moyes combined with an absolutely woeful performance from every Everton player who made an appearance has resultant in the easiest Merseyside Derby 3-0 win for Liverpool at Anfield.

A Steven Gerrard hat-trick on his 400th appearance was enough to humiliate Everton, as fans will look at David Moyes for an explanation for this defeat, with the players on show lacking balance, tenacity and any type of form.

Despite the Toffees coming off the back of an extended unbeaten run and an impressive battling 1-0 win against high-flying Tottenham, Moyes - celebrating his 10 year anniversary at the club - decided to make six changes to his line-up.

Bafflingly, he changed his proven centre-half partnership, dropping John Heitinga for Phil Jagielka, returning from injury. He dropped Nikica Jelavic, a striker who scored in his full debut last time out, for Denis Stracqualursi. Jack Rodwell came into midfield for his first start since a return from injury, replacing Leon Osman, who made a fantastic assist against Spurs. Victor Anichebe, who has not been used much since January, replaced Tim Cahill, and started in an unfamiliar left wing role, whilst Steven Pienaar - impressive on the left wing since his return to Goodison Park - moved into the middle.

The results, unfortunately, were predictable...

Liverpool dominated the entire game, barring a small ten minute spell in the first half, and will never have an easier win in the Merseyside Derby. The irony is that this was a Liverpool side bereft of confidence, out of the running for a Champions League place and plagued by problems both on and off the pitch.

But Everton made them look like world beating title challengers. Steven Gerrard, constantly not tracked throughout the game, took advantage with a hat-trick of goals, two of which came in the second half, whilst Everton were limited to barely a sniff of goal, with the only one of note coming from the head of Stracqualursi late in the first half.

"Disappointing" doesn't quite cover it. Whilst some will suggest Moyes was resting key players for the FA Cup Quarter Final against Sunderland, in my eyes the Merseyside Derby is a far more important game.

Unfortunately, after ten years at the club, we have a manager who obviously feels he can afford to field a team of reserves against our local rivals, and get away with it.

Evertonians will be understandably upset by this performance, and Moyes has suddenly made the game against Sunderland more than just the bonus to the season - he's made it a must win, because without a trip to Wembley, Moyes will mark his tenth year at Goodison with the enduring memory being the most embarrassing defeat in recent memory against our local rivals.

Liverpool 3 Everton 0.

Fecking embarrassing everton. Disgraceful performance. Not feckin one of you pricks turned up tonight. I hate you.

Didn't turn up. What a game to give 4-4-2 a try.

Completely over run in midfield and 60 minutes had to arrive to alter it.

Very very odd.

We didn't.

Anichebe started left wing, Pienaar in the centre, Stracqualursi lone striker.

Changed briefly in the second half until Jelavic came on.

At times i hate Moyes with a passion, he really is a clueless knob who simply picks some very bizarre team selections...tonight though he has taken it to the next level...disgusted with him !!!

anyone notice even pienaar/baines partnership wasnt working? bad team selection but nothing came off for us tonight

The manager and players shat it when we had a real chance of doing them i their own backyard.

Unforgivable.

There was no reason to change the team like this. You could say to rest the players, but they'd have four days to recover anyways. I usually don't get angry about much, but this is the most angry I've been in quite some time.

Our right side was totally anti-football:

Hibbert (we love him but he can't control or pass the ball in the top-class way we need)
Coleman (we admire his efforts but he can't control or pass the ball in the top-class way we need)
Straq (inexplicably a fan favourite but he can't control or pass the ball in the top-class way we need)

+ Anichebe who has no saving grace and he can't control or pass the ball in the top-class way we need.

1 of those anti-footballers in our team is fine, adding some old-fashioned grit and determination to the mix...but 4 of them in the same team is just wrong.

At 60 minutes we finally replaced them with the 3 who should have started...but by that time the match was gone...

Regarding the goals we conceded, I can't blame anyone, apart from the dead 3rd goal...our problem was we didn't threaten at the other end.

Did we even have one shot on target?

I feel so flat...at least with other lost derbies we can rave about a bent ref and a close game lost...this time around it's just ****e all over....not one single silver lining.

taking heitinga out of the team was crazy, just crazy...it makes no sense at all, the other decisions you can justify to a point, but that was ludicrous, i thought he must be injured or something

I could handle a 3-0 loss if there was fight & at least two RS carried off on stretchers, but from what I'm reading, I'll swerve the highlights reel...if there is one.

Defended moyes when things were going bad few months back and still think he is best man for the job but must say tonight is the most pissed i have been in ages. Restin 6 players is bad enough but to do it in the derby is madness. Even if we beat sunderland this will not be forgotten. We could not win with the team that was out. Fuming
