Moyes: "I Don't Know How You Can Celebrate Finishing 7th."

I agree with what Moyes said completely.

Today I was sat in the Gwladys Street, and I noticed two quite frankly crap things.

Firstly, the Swansea goal flashing up on the screen got a cheer like a goal. Now, I'm as bitter as they come in regards to Liverpool, but that took the biscuit.

Secondly, at the final whistle, just before the parade, a significant amount of our fans decided to taunt Newcastles fans about "Champions League? You're having a laugh!" instead of acknowledging the fact we've just won a game 3-1. Me and my brother turned round to two fellas proper chanting that at Newcastle as the final whistle went and had to say "you know we've just won 3-1 right?"

The mentality seems to be about getting one over the opposition rather than achieving anything ourselves. The Howard Kendall Award for 7th Place or whatever they call it I couldn't give less than a crap about. I also don't care about finishing above "them".

What I do care about is surrendering three derbies in a row without much of a fight and being absolute dog turd for the first four months of the season yet again. By all means, in private or on the internet, banter away with the opposition or the RS, but at the actual game you just back the lads in blue on the pitch - if a goal against Liverpool crops up, small ironic cheering is fine, but that's it basically.

So I'm encouraged to see Moyes isn't exactly elated by the 7th placed "win". And our fanbase should be in that mindset too. Because this season, as a whole, wasn't good enough.

We're Everton, not Barnsley. We're not small time, as much as certain people and attitudes would lead you to believe.

I agree with your general point about us being too concerned about finishing above them put the reaction was nothing like a goal, many of the people around me (Upper Gladwys GS2) didn't even celebrate.

However, i also think it's a bit of a silly time to make a topic like this. The season has just finished, it was nice to get something to celebrate so people can be happy before the depressing summer. Seems a bit unnecessary to be telling those people that their mentality is wrong, i'm sure they were just as annoyed before Christmas when we were gash.

In other words, let people enjoy the moment of getting one over the RS for once.

We won, everybody was happy, I see no harm in being happy at the RS and Newcastles misfortune.

Because when the final whistle went it was literally like "whaaay we won!" for two seconds, followed by a couple of minutes of leathering the Newcastle travelling support.

Small time. They finished above us and we'd just won our final home game. Sole attention should have been on the lads in blue.

Was it not more of a response to them singing Sign On mate?

I see no problem with celebrating the Swansea goal tbh, they're our rivals. But yeah I agree with the jist, Moyes sends mixed messages but it's good to hear he's not overjoyed with 7th, because we aren't.

Same. Good day all round really. Not sure anyone was 'celebrating finishing 7th' as such. More enjoying a good end to another season where we could have done so much more but for yet another dodgy start. Totally see where Moyes is coming from, but was a good match and a nice win. Now let's throw the boys a Christmas party in August and start the season like it's January. COYB!

They sang You'll Never Walk Alone and from what I can tell chanted "LIVERRRRPOOOL" about 10 minutes before the end, but I don't think it was a reaction to that, I really don't. Their players went over to applaud the travelling support and the whole ground started kicking off.

Never seen anything like it, it was completely bizarre.

During the match, taunting them a bit and chanting "Who the f*cking hell are you?" at Mike Williamson - that's all fine - but it's just the final whistle that confused the hell out of me.

Just a really, really strange reaction to the final whistle and a completely OTT reaction to the Liverpool scoreline - which got a bigger cheer than the final whistle for some bloody reason.

Bollocks.

Come Tubes lid. Finishing above our local rivals for the fourth time in my lifetime and we're not supposed to be happy about it?

Denying them bells Champions League football after them in the late nineties looking down their noses at us?

Yeah it's all about Everton but it's also about putting one over the tits that do our head in. We never forget and we settle our scores eventually.

The lads then all got a terrific reception on the 'lap of appreciation'. Don't think we were concentrating on anyone else?

This basically.

We gave up on it ever being a good season for us after the Semi. At this point all we have left is petty grudges and score pointing. Celebrating that doesn't for one moment mean we're happy with this season or accept it.

I completely agree with all that, and as I've shown on here multiple times I'd rather get one over them even if it meant losing a game! But when I'm at the actual game 99% of the attention should be on the lads in blue.

I just think that, at the game, it felt very, very strange to see such heavy emphasis on the "little fish" getting the better of the "sharks" across the pond. It felt even weirder to see how much grief we were intent on giving the Geordies rather than celebrate and applaud a very, very good win.

The mentality at the club at the moment is backwards.

I'm talking about well before that.
