EVERTON could have to fight off interest from Manchester United for manager David Moyes when Alex Ferguson retires – according to the man hoping to upset the Blues this weekend.
Championship side Blackpool travel to Goodison Park for an FA Cup fifth round tie tomorrow afternoon and the Seasiders’ boss Ian Holloway has been fulsome in his praise for Moyes.
Holloway, who brings his team back to Merseyside for the first time since they lost last season’s 5-3 thriller in the Premier League, is the latest high profile manager to pay tribute to Moyes’ ability to work under a tight set of finances.
So good is the Everton manager, says Holloway, that when Ferguson steps down from the Old Trafford hot-seat Moyes is certain to be in the frame to be his replacement.
However Holloway is refusing to be in awe and backed by a convoy of Tangerines’ fans, the manager insists Blackpool head to Everton intent on booking their place in the quarter-finals and ruining the best laid plans of the man in the home dugout.
Yesterday, a 15th supporters’ coach was booked and last night only a handful of tickets remained available to Blackpool fans, who are set to take over the Bullens Road with an army of nearly 6,000.
“I’m up against the man I reckon would be perfect to one day follow in the footsteps of Sir Alex Ferguson,†enthused Holloway.
“Moyesey is a top operator. Everton are a huge club in every way apart from the fact that they don’t seem to have a lot of money to spend.
“They have remained competitive over the past decade because David has stamped his personality on the place from top to bottom.
