David Moyes grateful for victory in Europe
David Moyes has admitted to having doubts over his long-term future as Everton manager earlier this season as the club teetered on the brink of a humiliating early exit from the Uefa Cup at the beginning of October.
Moyes, who succeeded Walter Smith at Goodison Park in March 2002, can guide Everton to fifth in the Premier League with a victory over Arsenal on Merseyside this evening.
Yet in October, with his team facing European elimination at the first hurdle for the third time in three years, having been knocked out of the Champions League and Uefa Cup at the preliminary stages in 2005, Moyes felt the second-leg tie against Metalist Kharkiv in Ukraine was a seminal moment in his career.
"If I wanted to take Everton into Europe, I needed to show that I could do it," Moyes said, "and I needed it for my development. Maybe if it hadn't happened that night, who knows what would have happened?
"If we hadn't gone through, there might have been others who felt, 'Well he's had a couple of goes now and it didn't work. Maybe he can't do it'. There was so much at stake that night, and it was a pivotal win for this club. It gave us great belief."
So if we would have gone out to Metalist Kharkiv...............Tell the truth, would you have called for moyes's head??
You know iv been thinking about this one. An if we would of lost i might have said enough is enough!! sorry boss.....
