David Moyes hailed Everton's first half display at West Ham as the best of his managerial career.
The Blues went in for half time at 1-1 before Yakubu sealed progression to the semi finals of the Carling Cup late in the second period.
But despite honours being even at the break, Moyes was delighted with the quality of play on show.
He told evertonTV: "The first half was probably the best in my management career. If that had been Arsenal we would all have been talking about them.
"We didn't get the ball down and play as much in the second half," he conceded, "And in the end I was delighted not to see extra time!"
Even though the Toffees are in the semi final of a cup for the first time under Moyes, the boss is keen that his side make the most of their opportunity.
"Quarters are great," he said. "We are into a semi which is even better but we don't want to be the bridesmaids. We want to get to a final if we can.
"We played well tonight and we got a good result."
