Deco
Player Valuation: £40m
What a terrible season this has been.
We're in the relegation zone. We're out of Europe at the group stage barring some miracle. It's not even been bad luck - we've truly been that poor.
To top it all off we've just paid £10m to get rid of the manager that put us in this situation.
It's not all bad though. Our squad might be 75% (at best) complete but with the right manager and money to back him, we've got some good players to build around.
The likes of Pickford, Keane, Gueye, Gylfi, Ross, Rooney, Klaassen are all easily good enough to be in and around a top squad.
Then we have Calvert-Lewin, Sandro, Davies, Lookman, Vlasic, Holgate, Kenny who (despite Sandro's terrible start) have huge potential and are ideal squad players.
I actually think in the right footballing set up (high energy, tempo) that someone like Tuchel would implement, they're already good enough to compete at a high level. On top of this we have a host of young players who are supposedly among the most talented at their level such as Beni.
I'm a big fan of Unsworth - he says all the right things, he's popular with the players, he's been very successful with the u23 side. But is he really ready to be the man to take us to the next level? I'd love him to but it's very unlikely.
I think he'll be given his fair chance to prove he's the man for the job, rightfully so, but we need someone like Tuchel in my opinion. At Dortmund he learned about developing young players and getting them into the side (Dembele being the main one here, he's gone on to Barca for in the region of £130m).
The main thing for me is his style of football. We need to be able to start competing with the top sides in the league and I can't see this happening unless we get a well respected manager who plays attractive football.
It just feels like with another window where we sign a good striker, a proper wide player and a centre back that isn't Ashley Williams, we can really push on to the level we expect. With players like Coleman, Ross and Bolasie returning by the end of the year we're not far off competing.
It starts by attracting both the right manager, and buying the right players in January though.
Over to you, Farhad.
