Move to a back three?

Say NO to Ginger Managers
Would look like this. Barry, Jagielka and Stones are our most comfortable on the ball

Evidently we don't have quality on the wings with Mirallas out to injury, Pienaar succumbing to age, and McGeady either being crap or inconsistent depending on how you see it.
So why play in a formation that requires wingers when we have none. All it results in is players being shoehorned on the wing out of position, and the team suffers because of it.

Martinez had some success with a back three. I don't see why it isn't worth a go.

  • Barry at times is almost in the middle of a back three.
  • We're struggling with our back two as it is.
  • We already seem to be tripping over ourselves through the centre.
  • Back threes were all the rage for about two weeks after the World Cup. No more.
So worth a try I guess...

I am at the stage where any change to the current set up, tactics, personnel etc would be welcomed. Hell, I do not mind losing even, as long as we play with a bit of vigour and passion. The robotic, fearful unimpassioned stodge I am currently watching is doing my head in.

Couldn't agree more, this knocking it sideways than invariably back to the centre backs for 90 minutes isn't exactly great football.

Stones would have to play on the right hand side of the defence - put Barry in the middle and Jags on the left of the defence.

I would like RM to play 3-4-1-2

Howard
Stones Barry Jags
Coleman McCarthy Besic Baines
Barkley
Eto Lukaku

The back three and McCarthy & Besic defend while The rest attack - Baines and Coleman can help us press the other team, they do not need to think about going back to defend (like they do when the playy LB or RB).

Playing Lukaku with a striker mean he does not need to thinking about trying to hold the ball up. He can make the runs we need him to.

Lukaku needs to look at Benteke - he not only brings the ball under control he makes chances for himself (something that Lukaku lacks).

Wouldn't having three centre-backs increase the opportunity to knock it " invariably back to the centre backs" by 50%?

Maybe we need to be revolutionary and go with one, or even do the no striker thing in reverse....no centre half.....

Robles

Stones

McCarthy Besic Barry

Coleman Barkley Baines

McGeady/Naismith

Lukaku. Mirallas

For a laugh like, and to fool Stokes tactical analysis.
