Motorbikes

Bikes are great but you have to be so careful. I used to ride on the roads, got away with lots. lucky to survive. I race them now, much safer. If you are riding on the road, something like a Honda varadero may be up your alley, tall, sit up stylee, good motor, Honda reliability, comfortable enough to tour on, room on the back for your good lady.

Always wanted a bike. Something that was chunky - a good long distance bike that could handle a bit of a trek and some punishment if needed. I would have loved to just open up on a road trip for a few months, camped out, etc.

I haven't got a preferred bike as the missus wouldn't let me get "one of those death traps" so I eventually just gave up on the idea (yeah, my balls are on the mantelpiece...) and decided to forget about it.

If anyone can consider a good, weighty bike by a European/American manufacturer that is the two-wheeled equivalent to a Toyota Hilux...that would be the bike.

One of those BMW's that Ewan McGregor went round the world on probably...

Getting near midlife crisis time. Iv always wanted to ride but when younger my mum was dead against it..

I'm looking at getting my license currently but just wondered if any one rides here and could recommend bikes to fit taller guys! I'm 6 foot 7 so it's gonna be tricky.. Would prefer a cruiser style but if not then an adventurer type thing..

Any thoughts/tips/hints/cheese on toast recipes?

......don't do it. I had a footy operation in the late 70s and always remember 90% of lads in the ward were there following motorbike accidents. Nurses said it was always the case. Always delighted I never had an interest in bikes or an urge to ride one. Even more so that my kids have followed suit. Riding along roads at high speed with only fresh air around you is really as daft as it sounds.

I do/did down hill mountain biking years back, and was in North Wales few weeks back doing it again. Hit 28 mile an hour down a gravel trail with only a helmet and shorts for safety! I'd like the feel of that again but with having to bloody pedal! Haha

....rather you than me, Matey. Can't see the point in whizzing down hill on a bike unless you live at the top and your car is bust.

GS1200 - chuffing expensive though.

Doubt it. The closing speed was too great & it was a classic "sorry mate ..."

Car driver was prosecuted for careless driving .........

Don't know i thought maybe there was enough room to turn right ..yeah the car driver was prosecuted said he never seen the bike which is understandable at that speed and if he did see it it would be hard to judge the speed it was going.. nasty crash for sure

I suspect that there was a huge element of target fixation by the rider too but it would all have happened so quickly that he had no chance.

Credit to the family for releasing the video though in truth, speed doesn't kill. Inappropriate speed does.
