Motability allowance

I've been told that I would probably be accepted for PIP due to suffering from depression etc. I don't bother trying because even if I did receive the benefit, it wouldn't make me any better. I would have a bit more money, and still be suffering from a mental illness. So in my case, I see no point in claiming. But I am extremely grateful that the facility and financial help is there for those who need it and would benefit greatly from it.

Over the years I have known a few people who have needed and received benefit and help with their disabilities. But I've also known a few who have abused the system:

One person had his own business on the side doing very hard manual work that he was not supposed to be capable of doing, but still received disability/mobility allowance.

A bloke I know received the same benefits due to his back being badly injured making it almost impossible for him to move about. He would play football with me twice a week, and would be running about like a gazelle.

There is also a woman I know who is so bad (back injury again) that she receives the benefits because she needs help around the home and is also unable to work. Amazingly her 'disability' doesn't seem to prevent her working on the side; she has been doing various cash in hand work for years now with no physical problems.

Apologies for the long post :(

I'm living off savings until I can draw my pension. I allow myself £400 a month for bills and beer. If means tested they'd see that lump and say no. I just don't fancy jumping through the hurdles to even try.

You can buy a Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC) which costs about £104 for the year, it will cover you for all of your prescription requirements no matter how many you need. It will save you a fortune......

Quite.
Nobody invites an accident on themselves, but to be handed all that on a plate when it's not needed is infuriating.

At the same time, I have no income, claim no benefits, yet have to pay the government £24 a month to buy the asthma & cholesterol medication I need to stay alive.
Chris,

I have COPD which requires medication. I pay £104 per year with 10 monthly payments of £10.40. See below.

What? The supposed ADHD, if you believe that exists, doesn't in my eye constitute being worthy of receiving a free vehicle. Even if autistic, why cant they pay for their own car? If you need to care full time and cant work then fair enough.
As the father of an autistic child I wouldnt want the battle weve faced placed not even on you. The education system is a joke where cost is the driving factor. I guess you do not have anyone with disability in your family. lucky you. trot on
