I remember their first show, like many - all actually back then, they came via musichall and radio and somethings don't translate well.
They bombed.

One critic wrote; Television - the box they buried Morecombe and Wise in.

They went away and worked on it, got decent writers and came back

Christmas TV in the early 70's was all about Morecambe and Wise and of course Billy Smarts Circus and the Queens speech. lol
