LA is a dump, Boston is sound and Montreal is pretend French
Well, this is a hard question--all are more than adequate. What time of year? I've visited each briefly and Montreal and Boston were both beyond spectacular. But I visited during summer. Los Angeles is very big, and very SoCal. I'm not a SoCal kind of guy. I've never visited NYC, but Montreal and Boston both go on my list of top-5 cities in North America, with San Francisco and two cities to remain unnamed (one of them likely Chicago or New York).

I'm going next summer. Fly into Toronto, NYC, Chicago and San Diego are the def's.
Good list. San Diego is really great--I think I'd love it if I could do the SoCal thing. Skip LA and go to San Francisco, Boston, or Montreal (preferably all three).
Skip LA and go to San Francisco,
Cheers lid. I'll swerve LA and go to San Fran instead.

Has anyone been to Vermont? I've heard wonderful things.
Assuming your brother hated Vegas? My brother did a road trip last year and said San Diego was by far his favourite place, people were so friendly and he loved it and I think @Alio was full of praise for it or was going there or something.
