Hiya.

Just popping in to ask if any blues have ever been to Montenegro, and what your thoughts and tips are. Me and me lady are considering it as a summer holiday trip to camp, hike and explore with emphasis on photography. We're also thinking of combining it with nearby Croatia and Bosnia, but the former's strict no-wild-camping rules and the latter's issue with landmines means we may just stick to the Black Mountain.

Browsing around, I notice one of our newer members is from the neighbourhood @Muhamed Mume Bešić

Anyone with any experience, or even pics, to get us psyched up appreciated!

Random Google images from dodgy multis also welcome :celebrate:

Kotor is boss

Seen England there twice in the last 3 years. Spent time in Podgorica, Budva and Kotor and loved it all. Bud a is full of Russian tourists (your eyes will bleed), whilst Kotor is a stunningly picturesque bay in a fjord-like inlet. If you ho to Kotor, climb the mountain for some jaw-dropping views of the bay.

Cheap to eat/drink out, and friendly enough yokels. Well recommended.

We also visited Tivat for a day (the airport is there) and even saw a Montenegrin 2nd division match that day (VERY poor standard!). The port/marina area is awash with money, mainly dirty Russian oligarchs. Worth a mooch around, and again your eyes will be on stalks.

I've been to the black mountain and Tara canyon. Absolutely beautiful. Don't skip Bosnia though we drove through Bosnia and over the Balkans into Montenegro. During the trip we took in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro and Bosnia was my favourite by a good distance. Beautiful scenery, fascinating history and amazing people.

Montenegro’s main exports are non-ferrous metals, electricity, metalliferous ores and metal scrap, iron and steel, beverages, cork and wood and energy and petroleum products.

turns out you're Darth Revan

Wow...sounds epic. Budva & Kotor are on the list then, the capital a maybe.

Because of the landscape or wacky locals?

Which mountain is the Black Mountain? I thought that was just the literal meaning of Montenegro.

We're not gonna be able to fit Bosnia in anyway even if there was no issue with stray landmines. Looks like little old Montenegro has loads to offer. Been reading some camping forums and everyone pretty much agreeing Montenegro is fine for wild camping. Splendid!

Aye, the history's interesting, just been spending the last few hours reading up. Berlin declared Montenegro independent in 1878 (nice link to us that). It became Yugoslavia after the first world war, was combined with Serbia in 1991 and finally in 2006 returned to its old independent status. Population of around 600k and I think only about as big as Yorkshire.

I barely registered its existence until I noticed it next to Bosnia on the map while we were looking at a Balkan holiday. We're pretty much set on going there now.

okay mate

You should visit Perast and Sveti Stefan.

On the list after seeing the Google Images results!

We've gone through everyone's suggestions plus a few others we found...for a 2-week trip we should be able to see most of the key areas I've circled in red here. We might have to ditch the two cities at both ends, will have to see how it goes. Priority is enjoying nature rather than cities and towns, and we don't want to feel rushed.

How did everyone get around from place-to-place when it was too far to walk? From what I've read buses seem cheap and plentiful. Looked at possible average temperatures for August and that seems to be around the mid-80's...fine by me.

Durmitor national park has a mountain called black mountain or Crna Gora. That's where we went. It's a couple of hours north of Kotor, but definitely go to Tara canyon it's spectacular.

ye gods...that looks gorgeous. It's quite far north of where we're thinking of going, but if it's only a couple of hours...

Tara canyon is on the list, deffo.

Your eyes will be on stalks due yo the Russian stunners on parade. They'll all have amazing legs and wear the tiniest of skirts
