I've never done MMA training

I've done amateur wrestling and it's fun but also very difficult. Grappling will do wonders for your wind if you want to get in shape

Sadly, I know very little about where you could go in the Liverpool area

The MMA Academy is supposed to be good, on the corner of Gt Howard St opposite the BMW Williams garage

not exactly south liverpool mate, but it city centre'ish

I've never been there coz I don't like getting punched in the face or "choked out", but my mate reckons it's a good one

Wolfs lair has gone mate. after the fire they had a brief spell at Wigan total fitness but it must not have worked out. pretty sure they have pulled the plug as i havent heard anything.

Is this Jay Tann originaly part owner of Next Gen. If so he will be in very good hands. I have only met him once, he is a good guy and his BJJ is amazing.

There's loads mate. The one above the 051 (next gen) I think. The kempton behind tj's. There's one in wavertree by Picton baths and I think there might be one opening in speke.

I dunno where you are fitness wise or if you're a 'handy' fella but there's more than a few arseholes in these places that like to use the newbs for practice under the tough love excuse. So don't just go in and have divies trying chokes and arm bars on ya.

That said there's loads of brilliant people too that'll give you loads of advice and support.

There's a lad on FB called Danny Clifton who's a PT. He works out of next gen and he lost loads of weight and teaches there. Get in touch with him and see what goes

Kaobon is probably the UK's leading gym for fighters ATM, not sure what it's like for beginners really. Nice gaff, though. I used to go the MMA academy and it was sound but a bit cramped. That's changed since they bought the bottom floor of their building which is opposite the BMW dealership in town but this makes it more expensive than others. Also got Next Gen above Smokey Mo's by the 051 and another one in Wavertree which I've forgot the name of now.

This is true. On the flip side, don't go in and try to take someone's head off when sparring. A lot of newcomers do that either to show they're not soft or by accident. Never works.

I used to do Karate, if I were you I'd choose something like that rather than MMA - you can learn more about technique and things, it's actually really good, rather than more of the aggressive stuff.

But definitely do something like it, I loved it.
