There are no words to say how happy I am to know Poppy is back in the loving arms of the most loving owners. I have never seen such dedication and commitment from owners, as well as such trust and belief that one day it would all come together, and today it did as we have said all along we just needed *that one sighting* and today, on day 8 after nothing at all since minutes after Poppy ran off, it happened.
As well as posting and speaking to every person possible, we have spent all week checking maps, looking at possibilities, quietly walking our “suspected” routes, scenting and setting up cameras and feeding stations. Yesterday we had pinpointed a “most likely corner” where we expected Poppy to use, and had walked there with Poppy’s mum, human family and little Bichon sister Lola and cousin Luna. They are her very best friends in the world. We were disappointed to see nothing on the cameras overnight as we had guesstimated that Poppy would be using that corner between the cemetery and industrial estate, or as with many lost dogs, head to the railway.

Today as we were setting up another camera with a trap on hand, we got the call we’d been waiting for to say Poppy had been sighted. From what we’ve been told, she ran out just a little bit away from where we were setting up, near the space that we’d guessed, straight up Long Lane and through to the railway. She was frantic as people understandably got excited to see her after so long and instinctively tried to catch her, but despite running across some busy roads she seems to have known her “back and forth” route fairly well. We had to ask everyone except her mum to stay well back and give her some space, and her mum remembered everything about staying calm, breathing and letting Poppy realise who she was. Poppy was at the side of the railway when she realised her mum had come to save her, and ran through a big patch of brambles to get to her. It’s like something from a Disney movie but it’s real, and the miracle happened. Poppy is currently at home with her family, enjoying taking her favourite chicken chew sticks from Lola she is very dirty and bedraggled, and has lost a fair bit of weight but otherwise in very good shape for a tiny dog.

I can’t say how absolutely incredible Poppy’s family have been, but also how wonderful everyone in this group and beyond has been. Thousands of posters and leaflets printed and distributed, constant shares and updates, very focused help, passive walking, honestly the amount of help offered and given has just been unbelievable. You are all amazing and this result is the biggest team effort ever. Welcome home beautiful little girl, we are all so so happy. Well done clever little Poppy

Sound this.

I reckon if we get bummed in the derby I can just think about this happy story and it'll more than take the edge off.

My Mrs grooms dogs mate, it’s absolutely rife since lockdown.
One of her fellow groomers done her poodle up for Valentine’s Day, hearts and coloured etc and that was distracted over the weekend and was taken.
They have left out the dogs blankets and everything to try and get it back to where it went from but to no avail.
It's because dogs have gotten so expensive due to lockdown, (n)

Excellent news that Poppy is back home with her loving owners ;) So glad there was and happy end to this story.

I remember, many years ago, my brothers' dog went missing. Both of us were up and down for weeks looking all over for him. His wife at the time told my brother that their dog had run off through the back gate she had left open when cleaning the yard. Some years later I found out that, due to her finding the dog to be an annoying inconvenience, she actually had it 'put to sleep' whilst my brother was at work.

And people being willing to pay through the nose for dogs as accessories or statement pieces despite the suffering that many dogs go through to provide the pups. Whether ridiculously inbred to a degree that makes life a series of painful medical problems or working breeds that are kept as house pets with no suitable outlet for their energy or to express their natural behaviour.

Our last dog was a rescue. Our next dog will be a rescue. Absolutely no desire to fund a largely unregulated, often criminal and often cruel industrial breeding program that a lot of supposed animal lovers are happy to throw money at.

Not all breeders or owners but the spike in crime shows that many people who would class themselves as responsible owners have no concerns about the suffering in the supply chain. The people who are willing to steal are more than willing to breed dogs to an exhausted painful death. And people want to throw money at them for that.
