Mike Tyson calls a Canadian news reporter a (del. by mod) live on TV for calling him a convicted rap

Tyson was only ever comfortable when he could intimidate, not so much that he wanted to (maybe he did), but he needed too, good example of it here, he has to be in control psychologically, and when he isn't he struggles, see Lewis, Holyfield and even buster douglas. Talented enough to not have that complication, but he's a complicated fella
 
I find it difficult to grossly dislike a man that was used up and left with nothing but debt by Don King. As much of a fool as he is, an he certainly is, he's a kid in a mans world and when he lost his mentor the vultures swooped and they tore what pieces they needed from him. Great while he was world champ, but a mess thereafter. A few other celeb athletes have gone similar (ish) ways.

On his day a punching machine, worked his way to the inside and the explosive, short chopping, power shots with menace he could unload meant he was box office for over a decade. Was he 20 odd when he was World Champ? And I condemn the journo's and dikkheads that tear 20 year old pro footballers to pieces in the media.
 
Superb fighter that I loved watching destroy all around him but he's a convicted rapist that doesn't like being called a convicted rapist. The best way to avoid such name calling I suppose is not to rape and then not to be convicted of it .

In a row between a member of the fourth estate and a rapist I 'generally' tend to find myself in the corner of the non rapey guy . However I suppose the journo didn't beat berbick to be the youngest heavyweight champion or have a cameo in the hangover so perhaps I should have a rethink on that .
 

Very few of us have ever had miss black America turn up at our hotel room door after we had awarded her that honour* to wish us a frank and forthright nights sleep.

You've made some fair points but when teddy atlas put a gun to tysons head for indecently assaulting and threatening to rape his 11 year old niece I don't think he'd even met Don King .

Tyson has had issues all his adult life in relation to sex and women .

This bit isn't in relation to your post rather my general observation but I can separate the admiration I had at the time over his boxing ability to how I view him and his personality .

Not something I have read anything about, nor of Tyson's admission regarding. It seems like the kind of thing he'd say having been prompted to promote a bout. Did Atlas get any mither for having a gun to hand ot had he given Tyson any wind up? Not that any of that would be an excuse of course.

Tyson never speaks about it , teddy atlas does though . It's been talked about a lot over the years and was one of the main reasons they fell out and didn't speak for 20 odd years .

He mentioned it at length I think in interviews , if you google it there are a few online. If I remember rightly over the years Atlas hinted she wasn't the only girl he behaved in that manner towards .
