Middle Lane Hogger.

About time too - If you're not over-taking, then GTF into the inside lane. Euro types are IMO excellent drivers (apart from the Belgies) who all seem to execute excellant lane discipline even when driving at 110mph!

How will they enforce this? How long are you in the middle lane for before they pull you over? What if you're doing 70 and the vehicle inside you speeds up to 70 and so you can't pull back in?

As ever, another law that looks like it's been dreamt up by a 7 year old. I dont like the hogs either, but it's more a nuisance than a criminal act that needs a law.

In the old days there would be a public information film to remind people to think. Today? Sounds like a subjectively judged revenue stream / stealth tax to me.

I like the idea because I hate middle lane hoggers, they are an absolute pain in the arse, but I can't really see how it's going to be enforced.

Tailgaters need hammering more than middle lane hogs, mind. If people just left a decent distance between them and the car in front there'd be so many less accidents.

The two things are kind of intertwined though. Middle lane hoggers cause the right hand lane to get clogged up, and you get all these impatient knobheads driving up the back of each other as a result.

Only thing I've ever agreed with Clarkson about is that if you have to brake on the motorway then you're doing it wrong.

So those that hate them; what do you do? Overtake them and stay in the outside lane? Doing what speed?

Overtake them, usually at a bit over 70 so I'm not pissing about. Then I'll move back to the left.

You should be in the left hand lane unless you are overtaking.

[Poor language removed] who sit there in the middle lane, smugly and self-righteously telling themselves "Well, I'm doing 70 so nobody should be overtaking me" are causing more danger than people who do a bit over 70.

Yes, it's technically true they shouldn't, but fact is, people do drive over 70, so get over yourselves and move to the left.

probably start issuing tickets via the anpr cameras on these 'smart' motorways as well, pass 3 in the middle lane and get a fixed penalty, it'll turn the motorways into a tcr scalextric track.

Something I see regularly with living close to the east lancs rd.... which is although only a dual carriageway a 'motorway' of sorts due to the amount of traffic and speed limit is beauts on bikes on the carriageway when a cycle path exists. the lancs has larger than normal grids too so they sit where they wont hit them... how more of them haven't been killed amazes me tbh but eventually they'll cause a big accident. If a cycle lane exists then it should be an offence to use the road.
