Microsoft Word - Alternative

Another shout for Libre Office.

Back in the day - Wordprrfect - now THAT was a word processor. It was the technically superior beta max of word processors, but the behemoth of Microsoft gave everyone VHS Word which has only got worse and worse with every iteration.
The ones on the old Acorn computers are still better than Word, decades later.

Word Starter 2010 was the free, ad-supported version of Word that contained a lot, but not all, of the features of the full version. It'll definitely do what you need it to do in this case, and it basically looks, works and feels the same as the full version. I always thought it was very good for something they gave away (the same suite also included an Excel-lite that was still more than enough for what I needed). It's no longer supported by/available from Microsoft, but a quick Google search should result in quite a few sites that archived it... it's definitely still out there as I installed it on a laptop for someone just a couple of months back.

It’s a simple text format and if you’re submitting a CV no matter what people here suggest it really is not a good idea to use it
HR will expect .docx believe me
If you have Word then by all means use doc format, but it's not the most friendly format for non-native MS products and there are often small formatting problems when other programs covert to doc format.

I suggest using in RTF or whatever native format of the programme you are using, and then converting a copy to doc when sending it out.

The original poster has a document in docx to deal with which implies the organisation he is sending his document to us using MS office which to be really honest speaking as a corporate trainer teaching business writing amongst other things is what you would expect
Anybody sending an RTF no matter what you believe is going to raise an eyebrow
