Player Valuation: £5m
David Beckham's Major League Soccer franchise plans could be nearing completion.

MirrorSport reported earlier this month that Becks was keen to establish his new Miami team before the end of the year, in order to avoid paying an extra £40million.

The MLS put in a deadline of December 31 for any proposal, at which point the discounted rate of £15million will expire.

And it appears that the ball is most definitely rolling as rumours circulate that a name for the Miami-based team has been finalised.

Miami Beckham United :lol:is being touted as the name, with a domain name MiamiBeckhamUnited.com being registered this week, reports exMiami.

Management giant Simon Fuller's company XIX Entertainment also registered Miami Beckham United LLC as the name of a Florida company managed by Beckham Brands Limited.

Last month it was revealed that Beckham would be looking to build a 75,000 all-seater stadium after failing to find a suitable home ground for his team

The word around here is that Beckham has stiff competition for the Miami franchise. There are over a dozen investors who have contacted MLS about buying a franchise for Miami. Given the market value for an MLS franchise is currently near $100 million, and Beckham has a right to purchase a franchise for $25 million, I'd be surprised if he didn't end up merging his proposal with other investors.

In other words, the league isn't going to let him put his name in the club and its more likely that the "Miami Beckham United LLC" is simply the holding company for the franchise.

Why would a MLS team suddenly succeed in Miami, given that two previous Miami teams failed in the past?

When this tread is still warm, i would like to ask is there any hope that those football league that are "franchised" (USA, Australia, New Zealand) can ever become "normal", like in the rest of the world. When enormous countries like Brazil and Russia can have, sure it's possible to make same thing in US, AUS and NZ. Personally, i think that every group of people must have the right to found a football club and compete with other clubs for the title of the best on the planet. So, i feel sorry for our fellow Toffees in mentioned countries, because their football federation destroying the very core of the football. But, even in those countries, it's better than in Canada. What's going on in Canadian association football?

Yes, because sports teams in Florida *ALWAYS* do so well... Groan...

(For those not familiar, you can count the teams across all top level leagues in Florida on one hand that actually get good attendance. The stadiums for the Miami Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays, for example, don't even sell out during playoff runs.)

Such a bad location and a bad plan. It almost certainly fail miserably*. He'd be better off putting his team in StLouis. Not sexy from an investment point of view, except that it will be a going concern in 10 years. Not so sure about "Beckham Fusion United, LLC, CSI: Miami."

*But if he gets LeBron to partner, I wonder...

Besides this stupidity, I actually think MLS is doing a pretty good job of elevating footie in North America.

Theoretically you could convert it to a "normal" league and get rid of franchising, but that would require the approval of the owners, which is never going to happen because they'd be taking on the risk of getting relegated for virtually no gain.

As for association football in Canada, they have three teams in MLS, one (soon to be two) in the 2nd level shared league, NASL, and then 3 other levels on the pyramid in varying degrees of borderline professional and semipro.

Although, like the US, their pyramid is kind of arbitrary since there isn't promotion or relegation between the levels.
