I follow football to regulate excess serotonin.
I have always had a sideman's mentality. Deliver a nice sound on pitch with the correct style at the appointed time. Be consistent. Be early. Be reliable. Plus, I love big, complex, juicy sounds. Music, to me, is like food. A perfect meal is a big band full of interesting players with interesting sounds under the command of great arrangers. Get ready for some very very classy eats, gents. No bag 'o chips here.

There is nothing better than watching masterful professionals do their work, no matter what the work is, and this is just the coolest thing I can imagine. Credit to Jamo with that post of "you're my everything..." for getting me going - I would have given anything to be a fly on the wall at Rudy van Gelder's house that day.

God bless Gil Evans for having this sound in his head. Miles Ahead live, on camera. Check out the players on that blackboard, when they get to it. Don Draper thought these guys were awesome, too.

Miles Davis grew up just down the road from where I'm from in Southwestern Illinois and about 10 minutes from where I'm typing this. Genius.

This is my fav Miles line up I reckon, can't go wrong with Cannonball and Coltrane in your section!

Dex is welcome anywhere, anytime, Jamo. I'm a sucker for bittersweet. I love what he does with time here, and you can find that sound in the audio dictionary right next to "worldweary". Oh and Freddie - young Freddie. Gracious - thanks!!

True fact - I work with a guy named Dexter Gordon - "no relation, we're from Chicago".

No pain in this, eh? Dex suffers for us, and we can hear it in his playing.
