I met Bob Mintzer at Cork airport during the jazz festival. I tried to say to him "Mr Mintzer, you're a fabulous saxophonist and your playing has had a profound effect on my life", but as I'd had several pints and a few Jamesons chasers before the flight it came out as "BOB MINTZER, I F*CKIN LOVE YOU MAN". This was at 9am and he didn't seem overly impressed.

You know your stuff mate, so can you tell me what mouthpiece Bob is blowing on in that concert? It sounds immense!

According to the the best info I have from SOTW, that was a Dukoff setup he was using. Don't know more specifics - digging around in SOTW will likely get you an answer. It may even be correct, depending on the source.

Closely behind George Benson, I like Grant Green;

Climb in our musical tardis, and go back to '59. Gil, not Bill, and Miles. I'll have a new volume up before the weekend's out. Some great stuff in here...

I love watching them do this - it is an essential part of my life's soundtrack. This is even a little sadder than the version on the record - Miles plays even more pi$$ed off than usual, if that is possible.

Then there's Stanley Jordan. WOW.

Not strictly jazz, but I've been doing a few gigs with the brand new heavies recently, and a fine band they are! Here's an entire concert of me playing with them in Moscow, I wouldn't watch the entire concert unless you're a superfan (although I do get lots of solos :) ) but I do get quite a good sized knock on the very last song at 1:01:20 in which I crowbar my jazz noodlings over their pop tune!
