After years of threats, the flights are booked, I have tickets for Palace on 9/21, and I'm hitting the ground at the Manc airport the preceding Thursday morning. The missus and I shall survey your sceptred isle for a week or so, and we'll be starting up north of course - Merseyside and environs until Monday or so. I'll be looking for real live wools in their native habitat. A Greggs v Sayers pie-off should also be on the agenda.

Will there be Europa excitement on Thursday? We shall see. Breath is bated.

Would like to trade bad banter with some of you weapons in person if possible. I'll have the missus to keep me out of trouble. Think Morag and Groucho, just older and greyer. Looking for advice on how to spend our time - want to get out and see the surroundings. Ace daytrip suggestions accepted. Headed down south for the rest of the week.

Chester is always worth a visit IMHO. Walk round the walls, a few roman ruins, boat out on the Dee, faux old looking shops. Stay for a couple of days and go to the zoo as well...........
