Mexico advice

I second this whole heartedly. I lived with a Peruvian family in Cusco for 5 weeks and it was the most amazing time and place I've ever been. Peru is beyond ace. I had plans to make it to Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia but ended up staying in Peru for 3 months because I loved it so much.

Its said that Peruvians are some of the nicest and warmest people in SouthAmerica, and while Ive found that to be true, everyone down there is very kind and warm. The food in Peru is amazing as well, its becoming a gastro destination..... enjoy it if you make it down there.

As for the driving, its completely different in SA than it is anywhere else in the world. It seems chaotic, but I didnt see one serious accident when I was there and just a few fender benders. Nothing to worry about.

Peru is ace. But in my eyes Bolivia is even acer

Ahhhh I couldn't get in, let's just say Bolivia and The States don't exactly see eye to eye.....

Can't wait to get there though eventually

yeah at the border from chile to bolivia my Aussie mate hadnt had his entry visa stamped on arrival in santiago but they just let him through. Some americans who had paid for correct visas werent allowed in unless they paid $50 each to the border patrol. little choice in the middle of the desert, dont blame them really. :)

Oh aye. I wouldn't be too keen on the real Mexico near the US border like, sack that right off.

Its a pretty lawless country but the further south you are the happier you should be.

Living 60 miles from the border, yeah. I WON'T go there. I'm sure Nogales is still fairly safe, but still zero desire.

I've had buddies hiking in a national park in southern Arizona run into drug smugglers/coyotes armed with assault rifles and spend 90 minutes hiding behind a rock in a stand-off. Also had a tow truck driver from the nearby reservation tell me of his horror stories having to tow off abandoned cars in the desert on the rez. Tribal police would escort him out there, then leave. He'd basically pray he could load the car up before whoever crashed it returned.

Needless to say, with this stuff happening on our soil, and it is far safer here.

I have less desire to go any of the bordering towns than to don an RS shirt and catch a match at Anfield.

Dont go out at night? Appreciate you've travelled it but wouldn't that defeat a large point of the trip? Cities tend to come alive at night lid. Just having some wits about you and a bit of research on where to head is sufficient.

Wouldn't say Mexico is under seige either. Near the northern borders yes but not as far south as Quintana Roo.

Aye. Northern Mexico is a warzone. This doesn't necessarily boil over to the rest of the country, though.
