Well in man. That's my dreams.

Serious advice: learn Spanish before you go. And not castellano, learn proper Latin-American Spanish. They don't speak English at all really not do they speak the same as Espana.

Make sure you get to Chiapas.

Good advice here. Mexico is a great place, but it can be unsafe at times. It is much safer now than it was at the height of the recent drug wars, and now with El Chapo captured maybe this is a sign of a return to safe tourism. But keep safe; you will notice that Cancun's resort areas are quite different than the rest of the local areas. You will do better by blending in.

This is very true. It can be a very dangerous place, but so can most others in the world. I highly encourage you learn Spanish for a few different reasons.

1) they really don't speak that much English and those who do are often con artists, and pretty good ones at that (this is a generalization, you'll obviously meet people who speak English and are great people)

2) you have a lot more credibility with locals if you can communicate with them effectively. Not prone to being overcharged more for basic things in shops, can give you very good directions or recommendations etc etc

3) if it comes to interacting with the police for any reason at all, you'll NEED to have Spanish. Police in Mexico have traditionally been very crooked so that's something to look out for as well

All in all though, Mexico, Central America and Latin America as a whole is a beautiful place. You'll fall in love with it and never want to leave. I often dream of returning.....

English is widely spoken in the tourist areas so you'll be sound. What are you planning on doing, exploring or working? You can have a maximum 180 day visa in Mexico to explore but you can't work legally.

Cancun is a city with over 300,000 people so same we any city theres its social problems but from what I remember no worse than anywhere else. The drug problems are not so prevalent there as in the violence and that so as long as you're not a tit and have your normal wits about you then you'll be sound.

Boss part of the world though. Explore and enjoy. Or use it as a starting point and head down to Belize straight down the 307 highway and do Central America lid.

Yeah but I figured since they are quitting their jobs and bought one way tickets they wouldn't be staying in the tourists areas as much.
