Yes It's finally here, the Metal Gear Solid thread. Fellow fans of MGS understand you cant compare the masterpiece of Kojima's MGS to the money spinning industry of easily made games like Call of Duty and games of the like.

Any one old enough to remember running into the main man when it came to PS1 :

''I've been waiting form you Solid Snake''

Do you remember thinking you ran into an old enemy on ps2:
images

Vulcan Raven: "You live in Alaska too? You are aware of the Alaskan Indian-Eskimo Olympics?"
Solid Snake: "Yeah, I know it. You must be a real threat in the muktuk eating contest.
Vulcan Raven: Yes, but there is another event that I excel at. It is called the ear pull. It is an event where two contestants pull each others' ears while enduring the harsh cold. It tests physical as well as spiritual strength.
Solid Snake: You wanna pull each other's ears?"

Perhaps you remember 'The End' boss battle, a test of endurance and unique gaming experience :

''I beg of you, grant me the strength to take this... final prey... let me linger in this world just a little longer. I have already slept enough for one lifetime... enough for an eternity, you have my thanks. I have to thank you... for waking me, if you hadn't shown up, my sleep would have been eternal... do you hear me, Snake? I am The End, I am here to bring you to your ultimate fate. You will make a fine quarry for my final hunt.'' -The End

Looking forward to Metal Gear Solid 5?

What do you make of David Hayter being replaced by Jack Bower as the voice of Snake?

In short MGS has been a game with me since I was 11. The story is a fantastic blend of reality mixed with fantasy. Each game has been 10 years ahead of it's time. Each title his packed full of philosophy, on War, past, present and future. One of the greatest stories ever told. Any one with me?

And the most important question of the thread: Do you think love can bloom on the battlefield?

aw man...i remember in the PS1 game I was fighting this seedy boss character, then all of a sudden my screen goes black, and I'm getting weird breaking-the-4th-wall messages.

Proper freaked at that! I was on the green at the time too.

Genius idea...great game that was.

Ah yeah, they smash the 4th wall to pieces. Great art. I think that was psycho mantis you was fighting. I am 25 and would play an old title and learn something new.

yeah, play it! I recently replayed Final Fantasy VII...still as amazing as it was back then. You soon forget the dated graphics.

Great game though. MGS 2 completely loses me though when I play it

I can at least follow MSG 1 and MGS 3

Yeah there was a documentary on MGS 2 and what they where going for. They are just too far ahead of their time

Believe it or not MGS2 was about Memes. Long before they were cool!

"Put your controller on the floor, put it down as flat as you can. That's good. Now I will move your controller by the power of my will alone"

I was so scared of Psycho Mantis as a kid. Just a proper freak.

Is it bad when I confess I preferred the Sleeper Call games?

I loved the originality and concept of MSG, but those long cut scenes would grind my gears...preferred the voice-acting in Sleeper Cell too, and the gameplay was more addictive. I'd go out after a massive session and automatically fantasise about shooting lamppost lights out

Bit like after heavy GTA III sessions, I'd think about throwing someone out their car and driving off.

Top thread.

MGS1 truly is a masterpiece of gaming, to me anyway.

Simple concept, fun gameplay, and a great story with a anti-nuclear message.

Can't wait for #5 (even if it's shyte)

Yeah, I have bits of hippy in me and the anti nuclear message is great. The game is about avoiding violence through stealth. to stop a killing machine. I think they will make a Metal Gear when snake fights Big Boss and Hayter will get his role back with Bower.
