Messi crowned World Player of the Year

Smashing little player. Done the lot at club level. Cant ever be thought of as a great (never mind the greatest) though until he does it on the WC stage. In fact, he'd better start by winning the Copa America with Argentina first and then work his way up.

Spot on. He's one of the best players I've seen but can only cement it by winning the World Cup a la Pele or Maradona, both of who were better players at the moment for me. He's still got plenty of time like.

I think they both have their own strengths to be honest.

As football is a team sport than I'd agree that Messi is better, but it's a reasonably slight margin. Whilst the margin between them and the rest is quite big.

For me it's a non contest. Both great, no I mean worldclass goalscorers, but the comparison stops there. Messi is much more influential for his team, is by far the better teamplayer and produces in big matches whereas Ronaldo goes missing in them more often than not.

I don't like this opinion, as it's the kind of opinion that someone develops and then never updates.

Where was Messi when Madrid beat Barca in April to (basically) win the league? Cronaldo showed up for that one.

Don't get me wrong, I think Messi is the better player but there's better ways to make that case than with that argument.

More often than not, that was what I said. There have been plenty of times in the past where he just went missing. But I admit that I'm hugely biased towards Messi, as I just can't stand Ronaldo.

This is why I try and avoid football comparisons that involve Terry or Gerrard!

I just hate them too much to be even remotely objective.

in any other era of football CRonaldo would be lauded as one of the greatest ever. Sadly with the media currently wanking themselves silly over Barca he barely gets a mention. Both great players. Both deserving of lavish praise. As for the best ever? Look no further than Alio.
