If fit McFadden could be very good - witness his performances for Scotland a few years back. For Everton he probably lacked confidence and "tried too hard" rather than being natural talent he is (David Weir alludes to this trait in his autobiography). I suspect that Moyes brought him back partly as a favour to help him recover from a career-threatening injury - I doubt very much that significant wages are involved. I had wondered if the knee injury had returned to haunt him and this was being hushed up a bit as there is no mention. Mawders- the Will Young jokes are getting a bit tired now I'm afraid.
