I think Barkley is over rated - or at least has to really kick on this season to justify the love in. If he was an exotic £15m signing from south America then you'd have 50% of fans up in arms about Ross at times. But because he's a young blue he gets a much greater licence.

Yes mate I've seen every game apart from Watford and City.

I still think his decision making can improve massively.

They will be different in different ways. Barkley could be an out and out match winner and "run a midfield" which very few can.

McCarthy will be massive though. The lad is a natural leader and will get those around him to raise their games. I would hate to play in a midfield against McCarthy, he doesn't fear anyone. It would be like trying to play against Keane.

On the OP I think McCarthy is correct. This summer was a big statement of intent. We now need to start delivering though.

Stones, McCarthy, Barkley, Lukaku is an amazing spine to build around, who knows how long we will be able to keep them all though. Need to kick on, a top 4 place would go a long way towards keeping the squad together.

how is he overrated? He had one bad season. First season he was a revelation, then was called up for England well to early and suffered for it.

and of course he gets more lea way than a signing. Hes scouse

Come on lads wheres the positivity. I see alot of the wrong mentality on here, all this 'i hope we can keep them' chat shows the actual effect the moyes period which effectively engraved this punchin above our weight mind set on a lot of the fans.

i know all the counter arguments and frankly theyre boring
money, champions league, and of course the classic wouldn't you move to a better job rhetoric. Of course wed move, but football doesn't live in the real world.

have a bit of faith, and if the worst case happens and they all move, they move. But right now theyre Everton players forming the base of a very good team. Its good the top clubs are interested, it excites me to know we have a team of players who are coverted by theses cash rich franchises.

that's why the media work so hard to sell them all every January/ summer. Theyre afraid of what we might become.
