Dogs of War
It's something that Moyes instilled superbly and very early on in his reign that Everton, defensively, will work as a team, shut out the opponents and will give 100% effort. We have often been accused of being laughably yardog like under Moyes, defensive, boring, but this Dogs of War attitude is one of the most valuable principles Moyes has established within the team and I hope we never ever lose it. His coaching in this area is top notch, this season Moyes has improved our play and bought quality players in key areas, but the defensive base and that hardworking mindset were the true foundations. Players like Arteta, Pienaar and Osman, our most creative players, will graft all day in the midfield, tracking back and shutting opponents out. It is a fantastic system and it works because all the players want it to work, you can see that they are all fighting for each other. The solidity and desire to defend is superb from Yakubu right back to Lescott through Carsley and Cahill and everybody.
We have right now a very accomplished attitude to games, both home and away but particularily away where we have been excellent at keeping clean sheets (0-2 Nuremburg, 0-2 Derby, 0-0 Portsmouth, 0-1 Luton, 0-2 West Ham - perfect examples of our proffesionalism on the road. So the quality of teams, ok, isn't grea but we still had to go their and get the job done) and attacking teams at the right time, and playing patient keep-ball when we have to. Absolutely brilliant tactical work - Moyes is a top notch manager, and I thank him for the joy that he has given us, even if a trophy might be out of reach this season, he will always be the Moyesiah for me.
