Mauricio Sarri

Did a down the rabbit hole on Sarri and his tactics yesterday mate.

Trying to analyse who currently would suit and who wouldn't his preferred 4-3-3 system.

In a nutshell, okays a high line so CBs need pace, likes fullbacks who can cover the pitch and overlap, absolutely loves a deep lying DM who functions as the fulcrum (jorgino was his boy) likes the wide forwards to cut inside. Likes two CMs who can get forward and press high.

Looking at the squad we have, reckon all these would suit his system well.

Pickford, O'Brien, Branthwaite, Patterson, Dixon, Tim, Ndiaye and Lindstrom.

Ones that won't suit - Harrison, McNeil, Young, Coleman, Mykolenko, Gueye.

His CFC side not so much, but we did win the Europa league with him.

Unique situation at Chelsea imo, from memory you had a transfer ban so he couldn't bring anyone in (right wing was a major issue) and it was during COVID too (I think).

Noticeable that the club didn't want to get rid of him either

I like him, but would want to have somewhat a younger him.

But Sarri wouldn't be someone to leave after 1-2 seasons when works well probably. That's what you have with names like Corberan.

My thinking on why he's been a great appointment is this mate.

We've had too many of the mentality of 40 points is a good season type.

Club needs to change it's goals and way of thinking, need a system long term to be put into place on how we play and recruit for that.

Sarri would most certainly change all that, he's also a 'big' name but not too big if that makes sense. New stadium deserves to have a figure in there who signals the club's ambition and intentions moving forwards.

But at the heart of it - I'd just love to see an Everton side play even remotely like that Napoli side did

Absolutely. My only point against him, he keeps playing his style without compromise. That might come to the same point as with Dyche and Bielsa at times that their all not known for tweaking their tactics a lot. In majority Everton willl be great to watch under him.
