Trevor Brooking there before Euro 96... What's changed?
Vs
Well for England, Trevor, not a great deal.
I may have been a little smashed before the Italy game (these late kick offs will be the death of me by the way) but I don't think it's far wrong to say the better team won.
Were England more creative? Probably. Were England more positive than in recent years? Maybe. But what does that matter? England lost against a better team.
As for him, and a few others actually, they need to book their ideas up. Rooney on the left? Jesus wept. Gerrard and Henderson doing nothing. Great. And as much as Baines wasn't helped out very much, he didn't help himself out much either. Was I annoyed though? Not really. Pretty much went as expected. Italy aren't crap. England are pretty average and played like it.
Raheem Sterling and his 1980's party hair was decent, not as decent as everyone banged on about though, and our very own Jags came looking pretty good. So it's onto the next.
Uruguay next. Fresh from an absolute pasting by a Paulo Wanchope and Oviedo Baby-less Costa Rica. It was a weird result. A bloody weird result. As an England fan it left me feeling great seeing Uruguay torn a new one, but then equally made me think, 'woh hang on, maybe Costa Rica aren't that bad'.
Surely if Costa Rica can do that England can do the same. HAHAHAHA. No.
If one thing is certain in life it's that banking on England is never a good idea. As Evertonians we are aware that expecting to win never goes well.
And this guy is back....
We all hate him. For so many reasons. But by god he's good. Mix him with Cavani and boom, Uruguay look bloody good again.
The hope that Suarez might not last may be a little forlorn for England fans. Diego Forla(r)n in fact, as I'm sure it'll be him to come on if the toothy one breaks down.
Not much comfort there. Maybe a little hope in that captain Lugano is utterly mince with Diego Godin having to do loads of work to make up for this.
Look if you hate England fine. But just remember this yeah...
CHEATING SWEAR WORD
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out how England will line up. Steven Gerrard should be dropped. There's no blue tinting there, he's been poor and was poor against Italy. He won't be dropped though. We all know it. The only change I can for see is Rooney going Central and Sterling going wide. I'm just ok with that. But by god Rooney and the bald patch need to turn up. It's been too long.
Will Roy grow a pair? Nope.
As for our Leighton, a little aggression and actually being allowed to play to his strengths wouldn't go amiss. I call on him to embrace the spirit of Psycho to urge him on.....but then not go into one of the most underwhelming management careers known to man when he's finished playing.
If not one of these chairs is getting launched...
IT'S COMING HOME....well after this they very well might be.
