Here goes...
Vs.
Right, before I write this let's take a minute to remember that in England's last match they (i'll try my best to not use we), beat Brazil. Have we all remembered that? Good...
Oh for god's sake. San Marino have scored after 9 effing seconds.
Boy do I remember that. Graham Taylor's epic troops of woefulness fail at everything and despite going on to smash the minnows that day missed out. Did I not like that?
Graham Taylor though, I mean how did that happen? England were awesome in 1990, but by 1992 England were a laughing stock. A hideous team and tactics Moyes would be proud of. Lineker off, Mark Bright on.
So what has changed. Oh wait....nothing. Some, I repeat some, England fans still think we have a devine right to win everything. But the fact is England are not a force in world football. Despite what the ridiculous FIFA World Rankings say. Why would another country be scared of facing Danny Wellbeck? Or fear Jonjo Shelvey coming off the bench to change the game? They wouldn't.
This England aren't that different to the 1993 edition, featuring a Stuart Pearce backpass to the San Marino lad to score the most famous goal in their history.
San Marino is there. I had to Google this as I wasn't sure. Now i'm even less sure how this is classed as a country. It's like taking a rubbish part of England and making it into a country. A bit like we did with Wales (that there is rugby revenge). But a proper international football country it is.
San Marino are slightly better than they once were. But, alas they still sit the bottom of World Cup Qualifying Group H with a minus 16 goal difference. Their international record reads: P115 W1 D3 L111 GF16 GA465
Yet somehow you just know England are going to win this 2-1.
A lot of talk prior to this game has been around Rio Ferdinand being called back into the squad, only to then pull out as the training was too hard...or something. This will probably mean we won't see him in an England shirt ever again. Probably not a bad thing to be honest. I've been banging on about getting rid of the old guard for ages now, but some still remain. Ferdinand has been replaced by Tottenham's Steven Caulker in the squad. Don't mind him at all.
Odd are Everton's very own England duo might see some action in this game. Baines is almost certain to start as this poll shows:
(Who the hell voted for Bertrand!?)
And I can see Osman getting some time as Roy saves his alledged big guns for the key game against Montenegro next week.
Not sure about you but I don't like Everton players being in the England games, nor in fact any international teams. All it takes is one awful tackle from part timer and we lose a player. Still, good for them and I hope they enjoy themselves.
My goodness how easy does that group look? But yet you can be sure England will make a meal of it, and it will go to the last game. It's the 'England way'.
For those who want England to do well, how ace will England being in a World Cup in Brazil be?! I might even go.
For those who don't want England to do well, how ace will England being in a World Cup in Brazil be?! They will all die of heat exhuastion before a ball is kicked.
Something for everyone to enjoy!
