I don't think we're looking at the tournament winners here

I'm not saying we are but I'm reminded of the 1982 WC. First game in one of the groups was a mind numbingly awful 0-0 draw between Italy and Poland. The commentator said something along the lines of the only thing certain was that neither of these 2 teams would be going very far.
Italy finished as world champions, Poland 3rd.
