Its pretty much exactly the same.

Mentioning how the teams you face perform in other games to put into context you teams' performance against them is different to claiming that by beating the team who holds a trophy in another competition you nick that trophy off them.

It's like if we beat with Man City for exanple, saying 'and that was against the best team is the league" is a legitimate way of putting that performance into context. Saying "hey, we're the league champions now" is something entirely different.

This is because Rooney said about Hodgson that it was nice to have a manager he'd understand, with the implication that his poor performances for england were due to having a foreign manager. This was Capello's reply after he didn't perform for Hodgson either.

The joke being that only the two scots Moyes and Ferguson have ever got anything out of him. Which isn't true, he played very well for Eriksen in 2004.

Have a read of this, http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/les-murray/blog/1111646/Why-Rooney-and-Ronaldo-are-not-great

[qoute]Both players had an excellent EURO 2004, eight years ago when they were both in their teens. This was partly because they were very young, barely more than kids. They were in their debut tournaments with little pressure of expectation. Most importantly they were not expected to lead, which they now are.[/quote]
