Dr Alio's thought of the day...."The 21st century. When deleting history is more important than making it" Very "GOT" isn't it? Anyway, on to the action, you ready? We're starting with the Adriatic Sea v the Mediterranean and Don Corleone v Father Ted. It's one Boss Slotter v another. It's a Grosso bender v a Ray Houghton's 30 yarder, remember to ask Heat about a story he has about this goal. Both games shown on BBC 1 and BBC 3 at 7.45 pm

So we're on to Group C already, how's that happened? Croatia currently lie in second place in the group on 4 points, having stuffed Ireland and drawing against Italy. Mandzukic is looking the part up front with Jelavic, oh how we'd love to see that strike force at Goodison next season. Croatia go into the game on the same points as Spain, who drew with Italy in the first game and sadly double stuffed Ireland. As much as I used to hate see him score, it was sort of nice to see Torres scoring again (sorry Ireland fans). I told you those goals would come. A draw here and both teams would be through I think?

Onto the second game and we've got Italy who are currently 3rd against Ireland who are already out of the tournament in 4th place. Italy need a win here at the very least, not even a win would guarantee them a place in the quarters if I've got my facts right, but you'd think Spain would get one over Croatia. However, no games have gone the way I thought they would so far. Ireland won't want to go out losing all 3 games, so they'll be up for this game and no mistake. Will Gibbo play? They wouldn't have lost a single game if he played from what I've read so far. Anyway, I'm thinking that Spain and Italy will qualify here, the teams going on to play against the qualifiers from Group D. This would leave our men Gibson and Jelavic both reporting to preseason training nice and early. Should be a nice evening of Soccer. Ta'ra for now

Pat's Van der Vaart, you've got to understand these cards are based on my experiences of ladies from each country. Now, head down and keep up at the back

*I have no experieces of girls from Spain other than the ones I googled and made perhaps rash judgements on. Apologies.

Our Croatian lads are going to get through thanks to Ireland holding Italy to a draw, its on!

Is it right that if Spain and Croatia play out a 2-2 draw , no result , not even a 10 nil win over us would see Italy through , remember reading it somewhere , has me confused tbh .

*puts on thinking cap

This would leave them all on 5 points, with all of them beating Ireland and drawing against each other...

No idea mate. Ha

Is it because Spain and Croatia would have scored more goals against each other, where as Italy would have only scored 1 against Spain and Croatia?

That's the only possible reason for it , it would be a ridiculous way to go out of a major competition if it were to happen .

Yeah, I guess it makes it an incentive to score goals, but you'd think if Italy scored more past Ireland than both Spain and Croatia did, they were just doing the same thing. Interesting

Hopefully I haven't it wrong , can't remember where I saw it , but a mate of mine reckon's that it is the case .

You would think 3 teams finishing on 5 points would result in straight off goal difference to simplify things , but uefa have never really been known for that .

POINT SYSTEM :
Three points for a win, one point for a draw, and no points for defeat.

TIE-BREAKER RULES :
If two or more teams finish equal on points after all the group matches have been played, the following criteria will be applied to determine the ranking :

(a) Greater number of points obtained in the matches between the teams in question.
(b) Goal difference resulting from the matches between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal).
(c) Greater number of goals scored in the matches between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal).
(d) Goal difference in all the group matches.
(e) Greater number of goals scored in all the group matches.
(f) Higher position in the UEFA national team coefficient ranking.
(g) Fair Play conduct of the teams (final tournament).
(h) A drawing of lots by the Organising Committee.

There is no need to apply criteria (g) & (h) at this year's championship because there are no teams with equal coefficient under criteria (f).

Ranking and coefficients for all 16 teams when applying criteria (f) :

1. 43,116 - Spain
2. 40,860 - Holland
3. 40,446 - Germany
4. 34,357 - Italy
5. 33,563 - England
6. 33,212 - Russia
7. 32,723 - Croatia
8. 32,455 - Greece
9. 31,675 - Sweden
10. 31,205 - Denmark
11. 31,202 - Portugal
12. 30,508 - France
13. 28,203 - Rep. of Ireland
14. 28,029 - Ukraine
15. 27,982 - Czech Republic
16. 23,806 - Poland
